Nearing $1,000,000 in Impact

Continuing to make a positive impact in the communities that we serve, we estimate that we have now saved our clients over $950,000 compared to the interest and fees that they would have otherwise paid to legal loan sharks.

BUILDING OUR TEAM

As we expand our service, we are now recruiting for three positions!

1) a full-time or part-time AmeriCorps service member to serve as our Economic Mobility Intake and Program Coordinator based primarily out of Franklin and Grundy Counties

2) a part-time Loan Processing Coordinator based primarily out of Hamilton County

3) a salaried Director of Operations based primarily out of Franklin and Grundy Counties

FIXING FOUNDATIONS

If our credit program is like an intervention, the host of other programs we run address more foundational financial problems that our economically vulnerable neighbors face.

This year we have already shattered our previous record for tax filings -- we have filed more than 100 free tax returns for local families as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. These families can file through us for free, sometimes saving hundreds of dollars.

In partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) Chattanooga, with the help of our Sewanee Office of Civic Engagement Canale intern Lauren Anne, and with our ex-AmeriCorps VISTA Adrian still volunteering, we have also restarted JA Economics for Success programming with the 8th graders of Grundy County schools for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. This programming takes kids through games and activities designed to help them think about potential careers and understand things like budgets or insurance.

Finally, we continue to deploy financial coaching to partners in the area. We have just wrapped up a 7-session program at the Grundy County Jail -- covering topics ranging from goal-setting to building and deciphering credit.
